“Luxury is what is rare and very uncommon”
Soneva Fushi is truly a desert island hideaway in the dense foliage within the Baa Atoll Unesco reserve. Surrounded by white sand beaches and clear blue water, makes you feel heaven on earth. It works on a simple Philosophy: No shoes, No news
The architecture is nature inspired and it has breathtaking views for sunrise and sunset. Soneva means Sonu & Eva. The story goes that they came on honeymoon to maldives, and fell in love with this place, so once they got back they decided to buy the island and create this magical property.
One of the interesting things about Soneva is that they have a Villa Ownership program, in which you can buy the villa and come & stay whenever you like. For rest of the year you get 50% of all the income generated through renting your villa.
We flew from Mumbai to Male airport which is 2 hours and 30 minutes flight. After arriving we were picked up by their staff and taken to their airport lounge.
The lounge experience was so soothing and magical. We were greeted with a nice refreshing juice and hot towels, followed by a quick foot and neck massage.
Then we boarded the sea plane which had breathtaking views of all the island in Maldives. It took 30 minutes to reach the Soneva airport in middle of the ocean from where we took a boat and reached the destination.
We were welcomed by our butler Chelsea (you address them as friday)
After such a hectic travel schedule we relaxed in the room since it was evening 7 pm when we reached.
In the night we went to the restaurant fresh in the garden, and ate various vegetarian cuisine specially curated by the Sri Lankan chef Derick.
It was very beautiful candle light experience under the stars.
After waking up we ordered breakfast in our room. We took the whole villa tour (just out of words to describe the massiveness of our 3 bedroom villa.
Private pool. Private beach, you need to be here to experience it, our super luxurious villa was very expensive (15000 US dollars a night )
After that we shot for 3 hours in the villa trying to showcase different areas of this property (you need to watch our Vlog to see the entire villa). As it was raining outside, we decided to order lunch in the room & chilled by the private pool in our villa. In evening, for dinner we went to a restaurant called Down to earth. There was a huge spread of buffet, being a vegetarian I was surprised to see so many options in veg & my happiness had no bounds when I saw Pav Bhaji. Later we had some wine while there was a singer who sung our favourite songs.
Started our morning with floating breakfast in our private pool then headed out on our bicycles to explore the island.
After cycling for couple of hours we were so hungry that we went to a restaurant which is very famous for its out dining experience Mihiree Mithaa for lunch. We had Asian fried rice and pizzas along with a Japanese Beer called Kirin. Later in the afternoon we visited the iconic six senses spa for a soothing experience. Absolutely loved the entire vibe of the Spa & their staff was very well trained.
In the evening we went to see the dolphin show in the cruise middle of the ocean and it was so much fun spotting the Dolphins. This experience was extraordinary. We sipped on our delicious white wine and simply relaxed while watching the sunset & the crystal clear blue water from our cruise. Very well curated experience overall.
It was almost dark when we came back to room and head for dinner at probably the best restaurant on this island Out of the blue. It is newly constructed Japanese speciality restaurant in middle of the sea with breathtaking views.
We were overwhelmed by the experience, trying some great delicious food in middle of the Indian Ocean, listening to the sound of waves & soothing music.
Later our bulter arranged a visit to the observatory where we could see the moon. I cant describe how beautiful the moon looked through the telescope as it was luckily a full moon night.
It was our last day in Maldives.
We got up early at 6am and went to shoot some photos and videos.
We came back to our villa for breakfast and one thing that touched my heart at Soneva is the service. Whatever Indian food we asked for, the chef served us. We had Indian Dosas, Pan cake and some fresh orange juice and even though we are vegetarian we had the most amazing food.
That afternoon we went for Snorkeling. It was all & all about an 1 hour activity where we saw malta rays, sea turtles and the coral reef. This was a beautiful experience & we got so many amazing shots in our GoPro.
Later in the evening we went to their cocktail lounge called Bara Bara which means very nice.
It is an ocean view bar, best for watching the sunset.
By now you would think all the amazing experiences are over but you are wrong because for our last night here, Soneva surprised us by inviting us for a special dinner at Shades of green which is a vegan organic restaurant. It is right in the middle of the garden where they grow their own vegetables.
It was a romantic candle light dinner. We started with a palate cleanser followed by Barbecued Pumpkin with some red wine & had smoked corn ice cream along with some unique mushroom based delicacy.
In the night we again went to Out of the blue. we were simply lying there looking at the dark sky filled with thousands of stars & listening to the sound of waves.
Can anyone measure the depth of the ocean and the vastness of the sky?
This was one of a lifetime experience.
Just got ready , had our breakfast and left by 12 pm. While leaving we visited the chocolate and ice cream room. It was a treat to our tastebuds. People staying at Soneva sushi can go and eat whenever they want free of charge, isn’t that lovely.
Our ride to the airport was a cool Tesla, Soneva is indeed luxury at it’s highest form.
Goodbyes are always painful, but we had to say a final good bye to this beautiful piece of heaven amidst indian ocean
